Harmonies in the vineyard

Lessona, Casa Sella allo Zoppo (12th September 2025, 18:30)

In an enchanting landscape, among the orderly rows of vines and the harmonious lines of the historic architecture of Casa Sella allo Zoppo, Armonie in Vigna comes to life: an event that blends chamber music and food and wine culture in a sensory experience designed to celebrate beauty, conviviality and the depth of listening. In this bucolic and refined setting, where nature is intertwined with the memory of stones and the ancient knowledge of wine, sound becomes the language of the land and a bridge between eras.

Interpreting a rich array of styles and languages is an exceptional ensemble composed of some of the most promising stars of international concert music: Bulgarian violinist Lora Markova, young Italian violin talent Pietro Genova Gaia, Japanese-British violinist Coco Tomita, Portuguese violist Miguel Erlich and British-German cellist Felix Rosenboom. Alongside them, the luminous voice of Italian soprano Angelica Antonini gives breath and depth to the program’s vocal moments.

The concert will be accompanied by a fine tasting by Tenute Sella, a historic winery in the Biella area, which will guide the audience on a journey through flavors and fragrances capable of telling, as well as music, the authentic identity of this land. Thus, between a glass of wine and a chord, Harmonies in the Vineyard is proposed as a multi-sensory journey, in which music is not only to be listened to, but to be enjoyed, breathed, shared.

The musical program opens with O Albion, a movement excerpted from the Arcadiana cycle by British composer Thomas Adès. A work suspended between dream and nostalgia, O Albion evokes an imaginary and idealized England, where time stands still in an almost baroque dimension of echoes, transparencies and delicate harmonic suspensions. Atmospheres that dialogue intimately with those of the next piece on the program: a lament by John Dowland, reproposed in a rare version for voice and string quartet, in which Elizabethan melancholy is dressed in new colors, vibrant and ancient at the same time.

From the rarefied sensibility of Adès and Dowland comes the irony and vitality of Entr’acte by Caroline Shaw, one of the most original voices on the contemporary musical scene. Inspired by the jokes and formal shifts in Haydn’s music, this piece plays with the listener’s expectations, alternating between lyrical passages and moments of surprising theatricality-a modern interlude that reflects on the very act of playing together.

Concluding the evening is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quartet in D major K. 575, also known as one of the “Prussian quartets,” written in 1789 for King Frederick William II, a passionate cellist. With its elegant, chamber-like writing but never without emotional depth, the work represents one of the peaks of Mozart’s maturity, where the dialogue between the instruments becomes fluid, democratic, and rich in melodic invention.
